Washington, DC is the perfect poster-child example of our inability to solve societal problems. What enigmatic blots of hypocrisy and solution lethargy does this location contain or represent? Many might say the federal government. Others may call out the national political establishment. The deep state is another bugbear. While these may fit within its overall profile, the most egregious elements of its enigmatic status is how the most powerful government cannot effectively manage and uplift its own local community, the residents of DC.

Yes, giving the district citizens their own national representation would be fair and just. However, the struggles and tragedies DC has experienced are predominately not local. Each difficulty has a national prominence as well, meaning many multiples of sister cities and brother districts. Each one of those cities and districts has national representation. Therefore, the national vote is not the underlying problem, although no American should be denied federal representation.
