I sympathize with conservatives at these times. As soon as their minds are opening a sphincter smidgen more, we liberals sock them with new ideas, and more knowledge to get woke by. Not being able to keep up can cause frustration and resentment. Of course, liberals hardly ever have trouble keeping up when it comes to deepening discernment and broadening knowledge. But conservatives see our superiority there as elitism rather than liberals being better competitors in that area. I guess their survival of the fittest fetish doesn’t include gaining in intellectual capacity.

Conservatives consider a new, or progressive idea for repairing a fault line in democratic government or society as relativistic because their ideological perspective is pathologically fixed and narrow, which means they avoid, even condemn, reassessment.

Racism and insurrection has always been the bane of our existence. In the early to mid 1800s the South feared revolt from the human beings they enslaved; yet revolt was only possible because of their reliance on the worst form of systemic racism. Then ironically the uprising bloodbath Whites always feared from the enslaved, was put in motion by their own enslavement in the profits of slavery. White supremacy Southerners became the insurrectionists; a twist and turn of the horrible caste irony knife. Then a century and a half later, through a circuitous though connective route, we saw the unresolved elements of systemic racism, and the rage of White supremacy play out again in another insurrection, on January 6.
