Washing your hands of social issues which are infinitely more difficult to solve than physical world problems makes us Christlike, sociopathic, or…?

We cannot predict earthquakes, so quit studying them. We cannot predict tornadoes, so quit studying them. We cannot greatly decrease the violence guns inflict on people, only add more guns to the problem. Attempting to end poverty is wasted effort so just let charities try. Why do conservatives get so apoplectic when it comes to liberals trying to solve dizzyingly complex social issues? Yes, it likely has something to do with having to pay more in taxes. However, I say the deeper reason is because conservatives fear liberals are intelligent enough to do it, which will make them look foolish.

Okay, conservatives are correct that most social problems are very difficult to solve. Some may never be more than partially resolved, or at the very least take untold generations. There are zero venture funds that will take such a long term bet. Maybe some angel investor, but few have such an eternal spirit in them. That leaves us with eternally progressive souls, utterly devoid from current reality dreamers, and hopelessly idealistic individuals. Speaking of zealous radicals and purveyors of progressiveness…
